Westlake Grand Prix

The Westlake Grand Prix premiered in the late 60ís. It was an epic event put on by the Viewfinders MC, at that time a motorcycle club whose members had to be in the film industry, and sponsored by the Stuntmenís Association.

It was just a stones throw away from Hollywood. Not only was it put on by the film biz, it was also held on a ranch that was a working movie set, very much like another famous Grand Prix, Hopetown. The course ran through a barn, down the main street of an old western town, up and down the hills, through gullies, and around giant oak trees. If there was ever a race course with character, it was Westlake. It was a thing of beauty.

Westlake Scrambles/Grand Prix was a District 37 points run and part of the Inter-Am series. There were classes for side hacks, lightweights, heavyweights, and the girls Powder Puff. This event packed in thousands of spectators and attracted racers worldwide. It was more that a race it was a spectacle. It was a cool place to be and a cool place to be seen.

Unfortunately, an exploding population, rules, and regulations closed in on the event and the Viewfinders MC had to relocate their race. But, nothing can ever erase the memories of that great Grand Prix and what it has contributed to the sport we love.
