Saddleback Motocross Park

In the late 60’s times were crazy, the war raged in Viet Nam, Woodstock was rockin’ and motocross was coming alive. It was in ’67 that Magazine pioneer Joe Parkhurst, and partners Vic Wilson, and Bruce Meyers, asked some European motocross superstars, Joel Robert, Roger DeCoster, and Dave Bickers, to come to So. Cal and help design a track. It soon became one of the most famous motocross tracks in the world. Saddleback Motocross Park in Irvine, CA was definitely the place to let it all hang out. It produced many great American motocross stars. Guys like Jeff Ward, Mike Bell, Micky Dymond, Ron Lechien, Brian Myerscough, Ricky Johnson, and countless others left their mark there.

Although the brilliance of Saddleback glowed for only a few short years, nothing will ever dim the epic battles waged there. Memorable moments like Danny “Magoo” Chandler’s incredible air on the monster uphill double that later bore his name, and of course Bob “Hurricane” Hannah’s unrelenting rise to the top. The original Saddleback Park, late ‘60s to early ‘80s, along with other classic So. Cal. tracks laid a solid foundation for the sport of motocross in America.
